"Trying to understand people's interaction with systems is challenging, but only then I am able to create solutions"

Interaction techniques
Bachelor's Degree in Business Information Systems (ERP systems)
After my Bachelor's studies in the field of Business Information Systems, I started to work in the IT department of a paper mill installing new systems. Quite soon I noticed that there was a large gap between true user needs and the software features. This made me curious and I started wondering if there was a way to make software easy to understand and use. This was when I stumbled upon the Human-Technology Interaction program in Tampere University and I decided to apply straight away.

"I always wondered why my parents are not good with technology while my daughter adapts to it effortlessly"

  • Developing new interaction techniques.
  • Evaluating usability issues in current technologies, especially with haptics and gaze.
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering and MSc. in Computer Science
My previous education in Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Computer Science provides me ample background in technology behind the intricate design of computer systems. What was lacking was the human aspect. And the Human-Technology Interaction program was the perfect panacea for my needs. Currently I am working on Haptic Status Information to gaze, wherein I am evaluating tactile feedback to gaze inputs, and studying the subliminal issues related to sense of touch and gaze.

"I am interested in people’s behavior and how it affects their use of technology"

  • User experience.
  • Usability testing.
  • Psychology.
  • Human-centered product design.
Sociologist, Economist and Market & Media Researcher
I started studying at university with behavioral sciences: Sociology, Social Policy, Psychology and Education. I am interested in people's behavior both as individuals (e.g. motivation, reactions) and in groups (e.g. norms, social structures). Besides behavioral sciences, I am interested in Economics, especially human resources management as well as organizational cultures. I have university degrees in Social Sciences and Business Administration. Since graduation I have been working as a market and media researcher. During my career I have also been involved in developing an electronic research tool and a portal for business information. Especially those development projects have made me think of user experience and usability. As a researcher, I am interested in learning more of those topics, and help common people to get more out of technology.

"All great technologies that mesmerize us today started off as a prototype"

  • Multimodal interaction in mobile and multi-user environment.
  • Prototyping new interaction methods.
Bachelor's degree in Electronics
After a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering, I was inspired to study and pursue a career in Human Technology Interaction after learning about the Pranav Mistry & Pattie Maes's SixthSense – A Wearable Gestural Interface technology in 2009. During the initial stages of the Masters degree in HTI at UTA, I took different courses to explore the diverse and multi-disciplinary field of HCI before finding my niche in multimodal interaction research

Draupathy from India

Usability Specialist

Draupathy from India

Usability Specialist

"I as a Usability Expert, can make people's lives easier!"

  • Usability testing.
  • Evaluation of interfaces.
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology
After my Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, I was given the opportunity to work as a UI designer in a reputed company. This included attending a 6-month User Experience training program in which we were equipped with the latest trends in design and interaction. When I was working as a designer with the company, I was asked to redesign certain applications. The challenges I faced with respect to rework, availability of required software to recode, lack of time, etc. hindered my output. I realized that these applications could have been built in much more usable way had it undergone any sort of usability evaluation in the initial stages.

Understanding the interaction between various components of the application and also the interaction with the users is an exciting task. It helps to understand user needs and rectifying problems at an earlier stage to eliminate rework. Usability experts do make lives easier!
